The newly opened Dementia care unit complements the existing Rest Home, providing trusted, professional support. Residents enjoy a safe, welcoming community where family/whānau and friends are encouraged to visit and participate in the lives and activities of their family/whānau members.

About Nelson Street Residential Care

We have large lounge areas that can be opened to a deck that leads into our main dining area for residents, and extensive gardens, which include many courtyards to provide quiet spots to sit and reflect, or enjoy time with friends and family/whānau. 

Our competent professional staff are committed to caring for our residents to a high standard.  We have a deep sense of responsibility to our residents and fostering trust is integral in the way we care. This is a place where you will be supported to live your best life with opportunities to engage in inspiring and active ways.

All rooms are single rooms, which are spacious and warm, with some having access to shared bathrooms and toilet facilities. Rooms with individual toilets or ensuites are also available at an additional cost.

We encourage residents to bring items of their own to make it feel more like home.

  • Our activities team supports residents by creating a stimulating environment and plenty of opportunities to participate in activities that meet the needs of each individual both within the home and the community.

    There are a wide range of activities available including a walking group, trips to the library or swimming, concerts.  Participation in the annual Christmas Parade is also looked forward to each year. 

  • Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to make their room their new home away from home.  Nelson Street is a social environment with resthome residents enjoying the fellowship that comes from being part of a small active community of people.

Facility Manager

Hayley has called the Manawatu home for more than 27 years. She grew up in the Tararua / Wairarapa area and has extremely strong family values that were instilled in her from an early age by her grand parents and wider family. Hayley has 7 children and 2 grandsons and loves being part of the local community. Hayley first started working in aged care at the age of 16 when she discovered that she was extremely passionate older persons health. Hayley worked as a caregiver for over 9-years which gave her the opportunity to see all the things in aged care that she would do differently. Hayley then went on to complete her registered nurse training and she has worked as a registered nurse, clinical manager and now facility manager.

Hayley takes great pride in providing a home to her residents and treating others as she would want to be treated and delivering the care that she would want to receive. It would be extremely hard to find a more committed and caring person.
