Ranfit: Keeping our people active, independent and doing what they love

Regular movement is a cornerstone of overall physical wellbeing, and at Promisia we take this seriously. That’s why we’ve developed Ranfit, our ACC-accredited, in-house exercise programme, which is designed to improve strength, balance and flexibility.

Ranfit classes are run in all of our homes, providing a supportive exercise environment. There are both sitting and standing options, and residents can work through modules at their own pace. Strength and balance assessments are taken regularly, marking the progress residents are making on their fitness journeys.

Ranfit at Ranfurly Manor, Fielding

Ranfit began its life at Ranfurly Manor in Fielding (hence the name), where it has been embraced by residents, as well as their families who often join in. Ranfurly offers three classes a week, with pois, pool noodles and thera-bands incorporated to provide extra variety and challenge. Ranfurly has also partnered with Sports Manawatu to provide no-cost access to Ranfit classes to the wider Fielding community.

Ranfit at Aldwins House, Christchurch

Ranfit has recently been awarded ACC accreditation at Aldwins House in Christchurch! Sports Canterbury gave Ranfit at Aldwins a glowing review; praising the variety of exercises, how easily it adapts to a range of fitness and strength levels, the warmth and confidence of the instructors, and the social connection Ranfit provides.

Ranfit is now running daily at Aldwins in response to resident requests. We've had some lovely feedback from our residents:

“I was struggling to get in and out of my chair and bed. I recently joined the Ranfit Stand and Balance Programme, and it changed my life. They showed me the “nose to toes” technique, and I have now regained some of my independence. When I see people struggling to stand, I go over and teach them the “nose to toes” technique myself. It changed my life”.
Gloriana, 91

“When I first came to Aldwins House, I could hardly stand on my own two feet. I started doing the Ranfit exercise programme, and now I am much more independent. I can walk to the mall, catch the bus, and it has given me back my freedom of choice”.
Tony, 75

“I suffered a stroke that affected my balance. I joined the Ranfit Stand and Balance exercise group, and I am gradually regaining my balance. I am now walking with a low walking frame and walking more independently. This has given me greater independence and a better quality of life”.
Noel, 78
